Shot through glass of my front door, terrible idea I know but the Cardinals come in very early and also late unless the weather conditions are terrible. On this day the winds were 30mph, single digit temps when they were coming in with enough light to shoot. First shot I pulled back to 150 mm trying to capture as many of the 27 Cardinals as I could, came up with only 10.

This shot of a Female shows how hard the wind was blowing, they were leaning into the wind at times as they fed on the ground.

Wow Steve. Thats quite a flock of cardinals for sure. Don't think we have any in our neck of the woods. Pics turned out pretty well for shooting through the glass. The last pic of the female is nice. Get a few more when you can. Whats that white stuff?:)

Excellent for glass shots, Steve. Wish we had more around here.

Holy smoke! I have only two couples coming to my backyard and they quarrel each time they come across each other! Yours are way more civilized.
Great shots by the way :-)

Thanks for sharing, even with the glass, looks good. My wife allowed the window open in 13 d. weather to shoot, but I don't think I would even allow it in your weather.

You are so lucky to get that many cardinals. They really do brighten up the winter.

Thanks everyone for the comments. Today I was working outside and the feeder was in my view. Once I counted 15 males and 6 female Cardinals at one time, they all fly in together as a flock. So after watching them for sometime it seemed they would congregate in two dead Honey Locust trees East of my house and when one brave one went to the feeder and landed safely the rest would all come in at once. They all get along great here at home but the Cardinals at my East farm fight like cats and dogs.
I intentionally killed the Locust trees last summer, left them standing and was going to cut them later for firewood but the birds love using them. Had a Pileated Woodpecker drilling away on the dead trees this evening so now I can't cut them, I really want a chance to shoot one of these birds.
