I own a hobby shop here in nj, a couple of friends have them and ive helped to paint and biuld various versions.

We fly 2 miles from the fairfield airport without and problems. Been doing it for years. No permit or lisence needed.

My one friend sits in his basement and flys his quad copper around the neiborhood ;).

Yea lots of people do it. There are power levels and types that are perfectly legal. Pretty much if its easily and commonly consumer available its okay. I have never heard of anyone having issues with it. Im constantly in the R/C hobby shops around my area these days as I am learning to fly RC Helis myself.
