I am hoping to purchase the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS Lens at the end of this month the price is about £1100.00 I can also get it from Ebay UK for £200 less one Ebay supplier says that it is a USA lens and covered by Canon UK I have my doubts about this, the second Ebay supplier says it is not covered by canon UK but they give a one year guarantee. I think I know the advice but I will get, but will still seek it.

Why not point to the ebay sellers and people can recommend or otherwise. I doubt any sellers hasn't been bought from by someone here ... probably several. Personally, I would buy from Kerso (search the marketplace here) or onestop-digital.com ... Kerso offers international warranty on his Canon gear ... I suspect you can get it for around £850 if you shop around like that. Hello and welcome bTW ;-)a

Can't say any fairer than what CondyK has, other than that my impression is that L lenses come with international warranty, whereas camera bodies are country specific...

I suspect you will like the 100-400L though :)

I have now contacted Canon UK warranty department. They state that a lens purchased in the UK are only covered in Europe, and if purchased in The USA (or presumably imported) are covered in the USA and Australia.

Hi
I have now had this reply from an online question to Canon UK.

Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding your Canon product. Lenses have an International Warranty Policy.
It looks as if this forum has better info than Canon. I am going with Kelso.

Thanks all for your input. Neil

I bought a canon 70-200 lf4 lens and it came from USA. The lens was back focusing so I sent it to canon uk because it had a int warranty card. Canon uk stated that it had to go back to the USA for foc warranty repair. Only when the item is purchased in europe will canon uk repair under warranty. They sent me a estimate of repair for £150 inc vat. I spoke to canon uk warranty and told them to look at the serial nos. This showed the lens was manufactured in Japan during Sept 2005, only 3 months previous. They eventually relented and said on this occasion due to good will they would repair foc. The lens was faulty from manufacture and in my opion should of been repaired with out hesitation. I also asked the question what is the point of having a canon int warranty card if canon uk will not honour unless the item was purchased in europe.
