I have a backyard bird feeder which attracts a wide variety of songbirds, providing hours of entertainment for the cat, who sits by the window near the feeder and drools whenever it has a customer.
A few weeks ago I set up my 7D with a 100-400L zoom at 400mm and recorded at 60fps 720p. My intention was to slow the track down to 24 fps to provide a 2.5x slo-mo effect. When I saw this footage of a red-bellioed woodpecker, I thought it'd be fun to slow it down a lot more using the Twixtor effect in Premiere CS6. As it turned out, the bird moved so fast when flying to and from the feeder that Twixtor was unable to provide smooth effects - instead it looks like a psychedelic fantasy.
The video is here on Vimeo
. I didn't add any sound, since with the slo-mo, any ambient sound would have been unrecognizable anyway. Comments?
Note added: I have made two additional versions of this video (both with ambient bird sounds). This video
on Vimeo is the 24 fps version of the original without any slowdown by Twixtor.
See below for the link to the 1X version.
