I had bought the 50mm f/1.8 II when I bought the 30D quiet a few years ago.
I have recently purchased 40mm f/2.8 which is excellent in terms of IQ and focussing.
I was wondering if it is time to sell the nifty fifty as 40mm is almost duplicate (with better mechanics and IQ)
Anyone has both the lenses and thinking the same or otherwise.
(I know it's my personal decision, but want to get opinion before letting go the nice little 50mm)

I have both. I mainly keep my Nifty Fifty around for back up. Both are excellent lenses

I have both as well. Going to keep both. The extra 1 1/3 stop of the 50 is nice to have when needed.

Bingo. keep the 50 around for when you need the extra speed. Not to mention on a crop there's a huge effective focal length difference. ie a 50mm effectively functions like an 85mm on a FF if used on a crop a 40mm converts to being the same as a 64mm when used on a 1.6x crop camera.

The camera is just a tool - it is not responsible for the picture.
