I just got my ef 17-85 but am not impressed with the sharpness at all. Would like to exchange it for a tamron 28-75 but I have read that some people have to send their copy for recalibration, my questions:

How much does it usually cost?
Who has to pay for it (Buyer or manufacturer)?
How long does it take?

I sent in my Tamron for calibration/service because I was not happy with its focus. They (local store in Sacramento that does warranty service for Tamron) returned it to me in about 3 weeks. No charge except to ship it. Still not sure if I am totally satisfied but it definitely came back better.
