I need a little more reach for baseball season... currently have a Sigma 70-200 2.8. Anyone using or tried using a Canon Extender (1.4 or 2.0) with one of these?

Please let me know!

I happen to have the corresponding Sigma 1.4x for sale on this forum, it was designed for your lens and is more reasonably priced than the Canon version. If interested PM me.

Sell the 70-300. Buy a 400 f/5.6. You'll get better optics and raped-ape auto-focus.

Look in the Sticky/FAQ for TC at the start of this thread. It looks like the 1.4X VI might work, but not the others.

Thanks for Reading & Good Luck - Jim

Thanks for the advise, I did use that 70-300 lens last year for softball; but it has an IS issue and I need to send it in. Works most of the time on manual The 400 f/5.6 would be great for baseball and day sports; but useless for night sports which is most of what I do through the year...

Well, there is also the 400 2.8, if you have a HUGE pile of money.

From the T-Con FAQ;
APO 70-200mm f2.8 EX HSM ------------EF MkII Versions do not fit. EF MkI 1.4x Fits with full AF

There are three version s of the Canon T-Cons. The MkII will not fit. The older Mk Is will fit.
There is no info in the FAQ for the newest MkIII .. but I suspect they won't fit either as they seem to have more in common physically with the MkII than the MkI

The Sigma t-cons will fit all canon lenses that can take the Canon T-cons.

Thank you sir!
I did start slowly going through the thread it is a little confusing initially, mainly because there are many variables on the lenses.
My Sigma is theAPO DG, 70-200mm f2.8 II Macro HSM EX (off side of lens)
Looks like this is theexact match (external link) So, when I see 70-200mm f2.8, I'm not sure how this matches my lens.

I'm using a 1D Mk3.

Any advise on that?

Hmm, I'm afraid I can't help there.
The first "DG" was exactly the same as the one tested shown in the charts from the FAQ, with the only difference being optical coatings...

But the one you have is in fact a new ground up lens design. Things change fast and our once superb resource has fallen a little out of date to be sure.

Ok, may just have to order via amazon to be able to return, if needed!

Ironic thing is this is my newspaper's lens....

I do plan on purchasing a 70-200L lens for myself. I just need something with a little more reach for baseball. Unfortunately, the 400 2.8 not an option! (that would be 1st choice!)
