This fact is hard for some to swallow. Isn't it? The 24-70 f2.8 Mk II and the 70-200 f2.8 Mk II is a tough combo to beat in anybodies book.

Has there even been, in the history of photography, a more capable, better performing 2 lens combo that covers such a critical range?

Now is a great time to have a camera with an EF mount.

I now have both of these lenes. After alot of back and forth I finally pulled the trigger on the 24-70mm 2.8 II.....There was an instant $200 dollar rebate on it at my local camera store and I couldnt pass it up. That next day I shot a dance recital using my 70-200mm 2.8 II...towards the end of the comp I switched to the 24-70 and moved closer to the stage. The performance of the lens was fantastic, couldnt be happier with it . I thought I would miss the IS but there was no need for it. Maybey If I was a video guy I'd opt for the tamron but that would be the only reason! The 24-70mm 2.8 II is a rockstar!

out of ignorant curiosity, when you guys with the 24-70 & 70-200 combo
shoot portraits, do you use the long end of the 24-70, or the short end of the 70-200?

Canon 6D w/MagicLantern, 16-35 f/2.8LII, 100mm f/2.8L, 70-200 f/2.8LII, 300mm f/4L, and a lot of luck

It depends...standard MBA knee-jerk answer...on composition, perspective, effects (do I want to compress and bring the background), etc.

I find I shoot 4:1 when ( short lens to long lens ) when in studio, and almost 1:2 the other way when outside or mobile. Close face shots are the exception with always on the long lens inside or out.

Interested in what the pros use though.
