Tethering Camera after computer reboot

Hello,

I was hoping someone else may have run into this issue before and would be able to help me out. I searched all over these forums and wasn't able to find anything posted. I am tethering a camera in a weatherproof enclosure with constant power so the camera never turns off. When I reboot the computer, my camera isn't recognized by the computer until after I turn off the camera and back on. This is a problem as the camera is being hoisted to a very high location which is not easily accessible. Is there anyway to keep my camera on and allow turning on and off my computer and still being able to tether? I really hope someone can help me. I am currently at a stand still until this issue is solved. Thanks in advance guys!

I am using a T3 and Windows 7

Have you tried to unplug the USB to reboot then plug in the USB after reboot?

Yes, That works but I can't do that in this scenario. Because of the location of the camera I can't access it and I need it to remain plugged in, and on, while a computer reboots and upon completion of that reboot I need to to be recognized by windows.

I don't understand this. You are at your computer but can't pull the USB plug out during reboot???

Ok, I understand the confusion and I may have missed a vital piece. The camera is running off a solid state computer, which is located in the housing with the camera and I only have access to the computer via remote desktop connection software. I cant physically touch the computer or camera. I ran a test with a T3i I have laying around and if I go into device manager after a restart with the T3i on, it shows an exclamation mark, and if I uninstall and scan for hardware changes, it re-recognizes the camera and allows me to use it. Only problem is that the T3 doesn't show up in the device manager. So this method won't work with my T3.

Thanks anyway. I am hoping its not computer hardware related. I just tested this on my personal desktop and after a restart with the camera on its recognized immediately, no issue at all... =/

You need a piece of SW that you can run in batch mode after the reboot that will reset-redetect the USB port. This explains what needs to occure: http://stackoverflow.com …ces-using-the-windows-api (external link)

Ok, so I have gotten a little farther. I created the following .bat file but I can't get it to recognize the camera still. It works when the camera is showing up in Device manager with no exclamation points, but before that, nothing.

"devcon disable @usb\*
echo
echo
echo
echo
echo
echo
echo
echo
echo
echo
echo
echo
echo
echo
echo
echo
echo
echo
echo
echo
echo
echo
echo
echo
echo
devcon enable @usb\*"

Its currently set to disable every USB port on the computer and re-enable them directly after. It works for a camera that shows up in the "My Computer" window but not when it doesn't. I figured it might make it think it was being unplugged. Any way to make this work??
