Have been looking at a 24-70.....then saw a "excellent" rated 20-35 2.8 for $600.00. I know it's old and of production but do any of you have one and use it? Most the reviews, as recent as last year, give it a favarobale deal. What are your thoughts?

I think these lenses are two different purposes
20-35 is more wide angle

24-70 general purpose.

So i think it depends on your needs!

I was looking for something for basketball that is fast....I have been using 28 1.8 and my 70-200.....your correct I may want to go up to 24-70......28.8 has been great under the boards, thinking a little wider and longer would be great for the money.

It's a good lens, but keep in mind that it's been out of service for a very long time, so if it were to break, could cost you a good amount to get it fixed.

It does not have USM auto focus. It has the much older(and noisier) Arc-Form Drive auto focus that does not allow FTM.

The 1989 20-35mm L was repladed by the 1996 17-35mm L USM, which was replaced by the 2001 16-35mm L USM, which was replaced by the 2007 16-35mm L II USM.
