Hi,

Is it worth getting my zoom repaired?

I use the flash mainly for bouncing light off surfaces or a 32" reflector if there's no walls around (See pics below).

At the moment it is locked at 24mm.

But does a flashgun actually give out that much more light at 105mm?

Still learning
Thanks and regards
Raymond

A new one is about $180. I would not waste my time and money on a repair. $100 for shipping, parts and labour then the thingamajig fails 2 months later.

After doing some research and playing with the zoom on my yn560, when used in bounce mode the quality of light and output is slightly better at 24mm (output acording to the histogram).
However the zoom does make a large difference set at 105mm when in direct mode, but the quality of light sucks.

I've been learning alot of bouce stuff from this usefull site by Neil http://neilvn.com/ (external link)

After learning from Neil's site I've managed to produce stuff like this by just redirecting the light:-

The ebay store has offered a replacement providing I cover the postage to China and back which I presume is around a month in time. So I don't think I'll bother.

The Chinese ebay store fotocola2000 has now repaired my YN-568EX under warranty, however I was responsible for the postage which was around 10 GBP.
This process took almost around 2 months to complete. To their credit, I feel that fotocola2000 did stick to their word and took care of the problem. I can't blame them for China's poor postage system.

Kind regards
Raymond
