I was in a similar dilemma some time back. Then I bought the Canon Powershot S110. It's quite decent with 24-120 mm equivalent range and most important - RAW images. I am quite happy with it. Can carry it in my shirt pocket.

I have thought about it, but my Iphone5 works really well!

iPhones are the reason that point & shoot cameras are going away.

I don't use a point & shoot anymore but I still have a 4/3rds camera. I like to have a backup when I go on trips.

I do have a G11. Have perhaps taken a hundred pictures with it, and somewhere between one and two hundred thousand pictures with my DSLR cameras.

Ive thought about getting one, but my smartphone is so convenient and image quality is not as important as just catching the moment as it happens, in the cases that I use it. Any "point and shoot" photos I take go straight to facebook, so my phone is useful in that regard whereas a point-and-shoot would require downloading, importing into a program to tweak, manually uploading to facebook....

I have a Leica V-Lux 4, which is more of a bridge camera than a point an shoot. It produces those lovely Leica colors and frankly with a 24-600 constant 2.8 Leica lens it's spoiled me. I find myself taking it out more and more because of the size/convenience, sharpness and reach of the lens and the beautiful colors it produces. My poor Canon and L lenses just sit in the bag unused and ignored.

Here's a photo I took from a recent visit to Prague. It shows the long grasp of the lens (It was taken from the other side of the river) as well as the pastel Leica color the camera produces.

I use my Samsung Galaxy Note II smart phone for snapshots.

Phone cameras have come a long way. Mine has exposure compensation and a fancy 'focus where you touch' feature. This lets you compose your shot, then, on the display, tap the part of the scene you want the camera to focus on with your finger. You aren't constrained by focus points.. It even has voice controlled shutter activation...

Some of the downside are the fixed focal length lens, no Av or Tv modes and of course, the IQ isn't quite as good as my 7D.

I don't, my 5D2 does everything I need. I don't carry my full lens compliment everywhere or my flash, just select what I think I will require.

This. I follow Richards philososphy and have a bag/gear config to match the task at hand. The only time I take just about everything is for wedding work.

If I don't have my 5D3 and REALLY need to take a shot I just use my phone ;)

I have a 'sports' type point and shoot that I bought to take kayaking and when I am in the water. It takes pretty good pictures (better than a wet DSLR!) and is small enough to put in my pocket.

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

Bought an s100 the end of last year, and it just sits(quality not good enough). I find that my pns is my dslr. Getting the pancake as a light carry option. Have the 270ex as well, but usually carry the 580...

If I pick up a point and shoot camera again it will most likely be one of those reasonably water proof sports cameras. (Actually considering a few for some projects this summer. Need to find ones that can be remotely fired somehow while still being waterproof.)
