NO. I want a warning that when i downgrade to an account where i can no longer profit on sales of my own prints that SM can still sell my prints and collect profits for themselves...isn't that basically what's happening?

Nothing has really changed in that regard. Smugmug has always made a profit on your photos, but before you downgraded you could also make a profit. Now that you downgraded Smugmug still makes a profit and you don't. If anything Smugmug makes less money now that they don't also have a percentage of your profits. The base price of the photos does not change based on the account level you have.

1. Why do you not provide a warning when downgrading your account that items that you currently have for sale will continue to be for sale even though the photographer has no way of getting any profit from it.

2. Why would you not automatically disable the shopping cart in this situation. At least the photographer is protected.

3. How can you (SM) not know who purchased the prints??

4. Why can't SM implement a global stop selling option. If someone has 100 galleries that were originally available for sale...they have to go into every one of them and "just a couple simple clicks"...

1. By default all account levels offer photos for sale. The below message is what we display to you upon downgrade. Perhaps we could word that better so that you absolutely know that the Buy button will still be On in the galleries. I will mention this to our team right now.

"We notice that you are currently using a few features that you would no longer have access to with Power. Specifically: Setting your own sale prices, Selling for profit, Watermarking, Backprinting, Access to our Pro Labs, Reduced Maximum Viewing Size, Pricing at the Gallery or Image level and Assistant password."

2. We do not change the settings you have in place at the time of your downgrade.

3. We only report on Pro sales, not sales at Power or Basic accounts. Sales are of course recorded, but they are not connected to the Power or Basic account so there is no way to cross reference them if all we know is your account. If we had the name of someone or their email address we would be able to look up if they purchased prints.

4. You can apply a setting to multiple or all galleries on your site. In any gallery, go into the settings then at the top click Multiple Galleries, check the box next to All Galleries, then make the settings change.

I agree with that...however if i'm not making any profit at all, why would i want to have my pictures available for anyone to buy. Most people sell their stuff at higher prices than base cost...so wouldn't it be safe to assume that the photographer doesn't want their stuff going out the door at cost? Especially when a transition like this caused the prices to be offered at cost?

I downgraded my other account (http://www.wizphotos.com (external link)). However i am not the only one that has been affected by this issue and that is why i brought it up. Like i said honestly, i don't know if any of my items were sold at cost...

I downgraded my account and the rep specifically warned me to go in before and disable all prints I have marked salable because I would not be able to do so after the downgrade. She also warned me that this type of thing could happen if I did not disable it for each photo. I did not know it would stay at the price though, I thought it would sell at cost. This was a year ago.

Thank you for looking into the changes. Anything that provides more information at the end of the day to the end user is helpful. I'm fairly certain that the majority of photographers do not offer their work at cost.

I did not receive that warning from anyone...otherwise this wouldn't have been an issue...

Yea I see your point. I don't think it really helps Smugmug, but to your point it screws over the photographer that downgraded.

Like several recent decisions at Smugmug I don't think they thought through the downgrade process. You should be prompted at the time of the downgrade from the pro level asking if you want to turn off the shopping cart for the entire account.

I think you are referring to Watermarks. Watermarks cannot be removed after you downgrade. If you are a Power or Basic user you can disable or enable the Buy button any time.

Could be, it's been a year now.

It seems like common sense to me that changing your account status wouldn't change the settings on your site.
