Going overseas in October for a week of Mountainbiking. All gear (Camping, Sleeping, etc) will be packed in Panniers and trailers pulled by our bikes. I need a good camera and lens setup that is portable and takes good video. Needs are hotshoe mounts for external Mic. My office DSLR (T2I) will not be available so I need something similar, but I fear that this type of gear may be too bulky.

t2i/t3i actually feels light/cheap in the hand. As far as video it will do the job.
External Mic - Im not so sure but i know the t3i onboard mic has a hissing so i use an external. Im not sure if the t2i has the problem.
Lens- WA ( depends on what your budget is.)

I second this. You might have to manufacture a mic holder, but gopro makes the most sense for biking. With accessories and homemade mounts, they actually are quite versatile. I have never checked the stock audio quality with external mic tho.

Maybe a Vixia? they are small and have mic inputs. Not sure what ur budget is. Its hard to beat the shallow Dof of a DSLR for interviews, but you can achieve with something like a vixia by backing the cam up and zooming in on the subject for Dof.

Well I was looking for a DSLR type setup. I want the capability of taking stills and video. Ive reviewed Canon's G12/15/GX1 but the lack of audio jack was off putting. I may just go ahead and get the GX1 AND one of the external audio recorders.
