hi
i ll be getting a s/hand 300d (only done just over 400 pic's) soon, comes with the kit lens,
i want to do macro shots of insects/reptiles/ and fish from my tanks
so what sort of lens would be good for that sort of work?

also can lens from old film slr work on the 300d ?

For insects, either a macro lens or extensiojn tubes would work. For fish/reptiles, it sort of depends on how big they are. Head shots or small fish get you back down toward the macro/tubes range again. Larger reptiles can be done with "regular" lenses.

As for older lenses from a film SLR, it really depends on what make and model the older camera was. If it was another EOS, no problem with Canon's lenses. Other companies' (Sigma, Tamron,Tokina)may give you problems if they're not recent. If it came from any other camera, see this thread on lens conversion.
