These are great! The ones I caught last year were mostly diving into the water rather than legs out and spreading the talons out like that.

The Ospreys I watch everyday always fish talons first. I haven't been able to get a good image of them fishing yet, I'm always busy doing other things when they fish and can't get the camera out of the bag in time :(

And, the Bald Eagles I watch don't fish - they steal from the Ospreys :-)

Strange I have seen them go in talons first but it is a plunge into the water as opposed to a snatch. I have seen Eagles steal from Osprey. The best one was Osprey gets fish Eagle harasses Osprey until it dropped the fish, in someones back yard. neither the Eagle or Osprey went to get it. However a Caracara had been watching this and took its young one to get the fish. Leaving the young one to eat the adult left. Very shortly the buzzards started to arrive and pushed the Caracara out.

I saw a Eagle attempting to take a duck, there was a large flock of ducks on the water and the Eagle was sat in a dead tree watching them.Three times it attempted to get one and failed returning to the same tree every time. On the fourth attempt it got one and left the area. No photos as I was to far away from the tree and ducks but I got a good work out running with camera, 100-400 lens and t/pod

Ahhhh, I see what you are saying. Yeah, I see about 60/40, steep dives in the middle of the water and shallower attack near the edges.

That's funny. One of these days I'll catch one of the many eagle/osprey dogfights we see here. They are loud and furious. Usually 2 ospreys on one eagle, the eagle almost always gets the fish in these battles :-)

Whoa, I've yet to see an eagle go for a duck. Definitely keep my eyes open for this

I am not sure what kind of duck it was but it was about the size of a Pied billed Grebe.
