It's a very nice crappy day today, with 25mm of rain. So what is the best thing to do? Go out birding. This Red-tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) posed willingly during the short time that the rain stopped. Shots taken with the 7D and Canon 400mm f/5.6.

#1 1/640 ƒ/5.6 ISO 3200 400 mm

I'm also adding the picture of the Rough-legged hawk I saw earlier. Its a crappy picture because the RLH flew and I was not ready. For some reason this RLH got stucked in my brain and thought the RTH was an RLH :)

Just a heads up this is a Red Tailed Hawk due to banding and tear drop pattern on breast. Neat looking shots.

Wow, Jo, those are Great! How're you controlling the noise at 3200 ISO? Awesome shots.

Thanks Rog, for me the key to manage noise is take closer pictures so I don't have to crop the pictures too much. These pictures were mostly 40% crop, and from my experience, 50% crop or less will manage the noise much better :).

Super series, Jo. All good clear shots. I like the first two especially.

Great shots, Jo. It looks like he's flipping you the talon in that first shot though.
