Hey guys,

I shot an event a few months ago. Hosts hired an entertainer to perform and I took many photos of him. The performer just contacted me asking to purchase one of the photos I took of him. He is updating his website and wants to use it on there.

I am completely new to this side of photography. How much do I charge? (He's popular in my area, but not filthy rich where he can afford a lot). If someone uses an image for a website, do I put my watermark on it? What if he requests to leave it off? Do I charge extra for that?

Any info would be really helpful..

Photographers usually sell a "use license" that grants permission for a business to use the images on the web, print, or merchandise. In these situations, you do not add a watermark or logo and keep rights to use it on your own. A reasonable offer for an emerging photographer may be $50 to use that image on the website and promotion for 2 years, or $150 for a larger collection of images. At that price, I would specify that merchandise use(tshirts or album art) is extra.
