I know this has been posted a million times, but please take the time to read. Thanks in advance.
First I will give you my gear list.
Canon 7D
Canon T3i
Kodak zi8
Astak-CM 7200 Action Cam

Tammy 17-50 F2.8
Manfrotto 701 HDv-561BHDV Mono-055xPR0B Tripod
21" Slider
Flycam Nano (haven't balanced yet)
Tascam Dr-40
Tascam DP-004
Rode Video Mic

Liliput 7" HD Monitor
Aputure V Control

May approach is to put the 7D with a either 70-200 or Sigma 30 f1.8 static for wide shots. The Kodak zi8 in the isle to capture ring bear etc and here entrance for low angel. Bride will be entering from a limo. Inside the limo will be action cam to cover ride over with brides and bridesmaids. T3i on 561BHDV with Tammy with Rode Mic. I will use it to get tight shots, b roll etc through out the day. I plan to capture the vow using the DP-004 inline with DJ audio.

My questions is:

Should I use the Monitor to watch focus or a loupe on T3i?

How can I create a reference point to sync the vow later from the audio captured from the DJ's sound system?

Should I use the 70-200 or 30 on the 7D?

Hope this wasn't to much to read.:) Look forward to the feedback.

Wow..your going to need 3 or more on your team for this...lol My advice is if you have the 2nd shooters or 3rd have 1 camera dedicated for the dj or use an external recorder that may be easier. Last make the job easy on you and your team.

My plan is to have my son recording the audio from the dj with the DP-004.

I hope you have a 2nd shooter, remember the 7D and the probably your T3i will only shot video for 15mins, before it stops, you will need someone to man it to make sure it keeps recording.

For audio Sync get Plural Eyes 3 (http://www.redgiantsoftware.com/products/all/pluraleyes/ (external link)), that will sync external audio with you internal audio. You can leave your DR-40 to record audio.

I would use the 70-200 on the 7D from the back or side of the ceremony.

I suggest you download the SMAPP app from itunes and watch that. It is Still Motions App, has heaps of videos tutorial for you.

Plural Eyes is out the budget. My main concern is get a complete record from walking down the isle to exiting. I will record segments through out of the whole day. I could put my other son on 7d with tele.

If plural eyes is out of your budget, depending on what you use for editing it can sync your audio for you. I know Final Cut X has multi-cam, just google tutorials on how to sync videos for you editing software.

Don't worry, Premiere Elements is up to the job. I have synced around at least 4 hours of DSLR video manually with it, and you can get really good at it. No need for expensive software for syncing. It's actually quite fun! So far I've done 7 camera angles at once, for live theatre.
Yep, just have someone to run around checking cameras! My dad and brother are lifesavers for me.

I wonder if the video editors on The Titanic ever went, "Sorry, I can't right now. I'm busy synching the Titanic..."

What steps did you take? You have to be on Canon firmware 2.0.3, then format a CF card using the 7D, then extract all of the ML files onto your CF card. From there load the CF card and go to the menu that shows your firmware, select that and it should load a firmware update from ML onto your 7D, then you use the delete button to select the ML menu. Having Zebra is awesome!

I'm hoping for a working ML for the 5D MK III

Followed that. I could only get the setup menu for all the features.

That's good. The dilemma is I am having my son record the vow straight out the sound board while I record. I would be easy to sync if I could use a clap board, but that's not a option, so now what do I do?

My method: using only my ears, I listen for a word, or the start of some music. I then bring the clip down to my timeline where I think it should be, and listen for any echo. I then zoom in on my timeline in Premiere Elements 10, and slide it back and forth until I can't distinguish any difference whatsoever. Then just delete the camera audio (right click track > unlink audio and video, then select only the audio track, and right click > clear.)
And you're done! It's super easy once you get good at it.
The fun part is doing a full two hour show, when the cameras shut off every 12-15 minutes. Then you have to re-sync ever camera, and with 7 cameras, it can get complicated. A wedding should be easier for you.
Hope that helped, it can be overwhelming to get started! :)

Or check out my sig, if you aren't comfortable doing it. Multitrack multiple cameras are my specialty. ;):)

You have to use the top rotating dial to access the other menus.
