First, you'd need one helluva lot of dust to make a difference in your pictures. Second, taking it apart to any extent will mean having to worry about getting everything realigned properly or you'll end up worse off than when you started. Better to send it back to Canon. Jon

Dust on the lens might cause some overall softness, especially if severe, but is too far out of the image plane and subject plane to come into focus enough to make a visible spot. Jon
