Went to the University of Washington's botany house today with a meetup group. Figured I'd throw these up there. I don't really shoot macro stuff, so I'm sure there's lots to work on.

And my favorite subjects from the trip, the poison dart frogs.

Very nice series, you need to buy that lens.

Thanks guys. I usually don't do macro stuff, but I figured I'd give it a shot. Trying out new areas of photography I don't do/aren't any good at.

Is this the Canon version?
Good shots and results. But for these subjects you don't really need a 180mm macro lens ;)

Grtz,
Kurt

All great shots. I like 2 and 6 the best. In 5, it looks like he's got an attitude. "Whadda u lookin at?" :-)

Yes, it's the Canon version. I probably could have just as easily used the 100mm macro, but I wasn't sure in advance how skittish the frogs were to people taking photos so I wanted the extra working distance.

Focus was pretty slow, and in not optimal light it tended to hunt. But, I don't shoot macro, so I don't know if that's typical. Very sharp and little to no CA though. For my personal uses, I'd probably get more use out of a 70-200 2.8.
