does anyone know if B&H takes the money right away for a pre order or do they wait until the item ships to take the money? im really needing to know as i am going to set up an account to leave the money in if they will wait as i am preordering the d7100 and cant leave the money alone in the account that i use regularly so i need it out of sight out of mind.

i know amazon will take the money when the item ships so i just am wondering. thanks for any input anyone will have

I know this doesn't answer your question, but the best way to find out would be to call them. Then if they do something you didn't expect you have the name of an employee that told you their policy.

B&H only charges your account when they are about to ship your item to you.

I have done pre-orders with B+H. They only charge you when your item ships. But, they can "verify" with your bank that you have the money by placing a hold on funds.

Source: I pre-ordered the 24-70 II a month ahead and had to talk to my bank to allow a hold on the money.

It doesn't matter how big your camera is, it's how you use it!
