I am no wedding photographer, but I've been joking with my fiance that we should just hire a photog to capture the candids for the ceremony and I set up the candid looking poses with a wireless trigger myself.

It is mainly because the style and preference I like, I feel is within my skill level but way out of my price range.

I already plan on doing my own engagement pics.

My friend's dad was a carpenter and he never bought furniture, he made his own. Same mindset?

Anyone ever try shooting some or part of their own wedding?

Sorry man, but taking your OWN photos on your OWN wedding day would be a logistical nightmare. The bride and groom barely have time to eat on their wedding day, let alone slip away to set up a camera and lighting for their own posed shots. It would end up being a much bigger headache compared to the money saved.

It's a novel idea, but it's best to leave it to someone else on your wedding day. Engagement pics are another thing though, you should be able to pull that off if you want to!

I got a good laugh out of that you're crazy man. Enjoy your wedding.

I would strongly suggest against it. Even if you had everything on remotes, you'd still have to constantly check to make sure everything was working. Add in all the variables (lighting changes, people blocking the camera, interference), and I guarantee you, you'll be running around like a mad-man. If you are super budget conscious, find an amateur that you trust with your gear and give him a shot, but in 30 years, you may regret it.

Building your own furniture is way different. A better comparison would be trying to sit in a chair while you are building it. Its just too much.

Waxing poetic, here is a haiku in response to your question:

No, no, no, no, no

No, no, no, no, no, no, no,

No, no, no, no, no!

This is your WEDDING. Concentrate on the person you are marrying.

Well based on this

My friend's dad was a carpenter and he never bought furniture, he made his own. Same mindset?

Why not ;)

Set up 5 or 6 camera's with time lapse settings and you are good to go. You have all of the angles covered. Instead of greeting all of your guests at the church, you will have time too gather up all of your camera's. You could probably set up a go pro camera in the limo. Of course you will need to be fast on your feet for the formal shots. ;)

losangelino,

It's not 'your' wedding day; you are just a participant. The day belongs to your bride. Do what you are told, how you are told, and when you are told to do it and smile whether there's a camera aimed at you or not.

Your bride may humor you by allowing you to mention the notion to her, but if she thinks you are seriously considering it, she may not invite you to participate.

There may be those who disagree with my statements, but odds are they've had more than one wedding day or are a candidate for another....
