More and more interesting arthropods have been appearing in my area in the last two weeks. I think it's safe to say spring has arrived!

57-shot, natural light stack at 4x of a tiny orb weaver spider:

Single shot of a shiny ground beetle (Amara sp.):

Not sure what this is (possibly soldier beetle?):

Thanks, Russ. I'm going to put a lot more effort this season into deep natural-light focus stacks like the first two. I don't relish the idea of getting up at 5am to make it happen, but that's what it takes!

Planthopper nymph is very good!

In English they make a difference between Cicada and Planthoppers (nymphs). In Dutch they all are Cicada species apparently. We don't know Planthoppers I suppose.

Grtz,
Kurt

Thanks, Kurt. It is strange that there is no distinction in Dutch, because Cicadas and Planthoppers look quite different to me.

Toby, we're lucky in this area to have an early start to spring. Of course, the price we pay is that things get very dry rather early in summer, and once that happens, all the interesting stuff becomes hard to find, and all you are left with are swarms of flies.
