I figured I'd throw this question out there. I did a search and found nothing that matches this question so...

I was looking through a friends portfolio pictures and he had some great photos done of him by a well known Chicago Photographer Marc Hauser. I couldn't help but notice the stunning backdrop he used. These photos were in Black & White so I have no idea what colors this backdrop was.

Here are a couple samples of what I'm talking about. There are actually 2 different people. Both are friends of mine.

His website is here.

You'll be amazed at how many celebrities he's photographed if you don't know his work.

Looking through the portfolio I see a gray maybe light blue hand painted backdrop in one of his color photos (Walter Payton in the Celebrity II Gallery). That might be the one he used in the 2 samples above.

Is light blue hand painted (or tie-dyed) the way to go with a backdrop because it's such a neutral color and does it look that good in Black & White?

Shampoo sounds like an unfortunate name for a hair product.

Hmmm... No backdrop aficionados here huh? :(

Here's an amusing video from Marc's website. I love his aunt and uncles comments.

Try something neutral-ish with the texture you like and you can always pop it with low power flash gelled to any color you want for color, or tonal, contrast for black and white conversion.
