I took this shot a Pauratis Pond in the Everglades National Park.
Damn thing moved into the water about 6 feet from where I was photographing birds and never heard him at all.

Thing is when I look at this photos I am thinking it might possibly be
an American Crocodile.

Any thoughts?

Just a guess, crocodile. The tip of the snout looks more like a croc to me.

Maybe someone will come on with a more definitive answer.

Alligator. The Saltwater Crocodiles in South Florida are a different color/pattern. Also,I have never seen a crocodile in the Paurotis Pond area before. It is primarily fresh water.

How was the birding at Paurotis Pond? Are there many still around or have most of them left thier nesting sites?

There are plenty of birds, mostly wood storks and spoonbills, but they are in the rookery across
the pond. If you had a kayak, it would be easy to get over there. From the parking area even with a 500 you are pretty far away from the action.

American Alligator...The tip of the snout is too rounded. Crocodiles snouts are long and slender.. Nice images though..

Thanks for the help with the identification. I think as I look at the photo closer
part of the upper part of the alligator's snout is under water which is making it
appear more narrow like a crocodile.

Again, thanks much for the info.
