A rare American Red Squirrel visits my yard now that Winter is here. He's welcome too, since he is the only one. LOL.

He's very small, about half the size of a small gray squirrel and about twice the size of a Chipmunk. He's very friendly and in just a few days, he has become so tame to almost take a peanut from my hand. Still a little nervous though. :)

This is more footage of my little buddy. He seems to have become a regular now, probably cause of the cold and snow and because I feed him. He has his back turned, cause I am about 2 feet from him inside the window, and if he can't see me, I am not there. :)

Thanks for looking. I am in my mid 60's and grew up and lived most of my life in this area, and never even knew there was such a thing as a Red Squirrel til last summer. LOL. This summer, if he keeps coming by, I will for sure have him eating out of my hand. I think there is also another one, but I do not see them together, so it is hard to tell. It's quite surprising, how small he is though. Just barely bigger than a chipmunk. LOL

Would love to see one of these guys/gals with my own eyes. All we have down here are Gray Squirrels and Fox Squirrels on the Eastern Shore (endangered species I think). I did have a young Gray Squirrel during the summer that would sit next to me as I photographed the backyard birds and it got to be a routine that when I was out on the deck it would come sit next to me a few feet away....it would never take a peanut out of my hand though.

Hi Duane. Maybe it was learning photography? Animals are very weird. I sometimes believe they are like people in one way, among them, every now and then you find one that is smarter, different, more curious than all others, and they stand out.

I spend a lot of time watching this guy and he has chased all my gray squirrels away. He can't literally beat them up, but he runs in and makes a hit and keeps chasing them till they give up and leave the area. I am not sure if he bites them or what, but they can't catch him to do anything about it. It's funny to watch.
