What settings in PS for printing with Epson printer?

Hi,

I have just bought an Epson L800 photo printer. When I use the Easy Photo Print program to print everything is okay. But when I try to print from Photoshop it is a nightmare. The printer manage colors setting gives a bit " HDR " effect to the printed photo, photoshop manage colors produces overcontrasted photos with high level blacks.
What is the correct setting to print from PS?

I always turn off the printers colour management as I prefer to let Photoshop deal with that.

Here are the two dialogue boxes with the settings I use in my R2880. The one thing you don't see here is my own preference for Adobe RGB as the colour space.

I try to print at 360 ppi as Epson use that as a standard, but have dropped to 200 without noticing much difference in quality.

I do have one particular early morning series of shots that simply refuse to print in the normal way without "breaking the rules". I'm happy to explain if you find you have a similar issue, but I'll not confuse things just yet.

Are you any idea where I can find ICC profiles for L800?

If you plan to do a lot of printing, get Qimage.

It depends, if you're using Epson branded papers, the ICC profiles can be downloaded from the same page as the drivers and other software downloads for your printer model.

If you are using non-Epson papers, you can go to the site of the paper manufacturer and hope they have ICC downloads available for your printer model, most have profiles for a variety of Epson printers.

If neither of the above applies, just make some test prints with generic Epson profiles to see if one looks good, because making a custom profile requires a $500 device.

I acquired an expensive camera so I can hang out in forums, annoy wedding photographers during formals and look down on P&S users... all the while telling people it's the photographer, not the camera.

You can try here:

http://www.epson.eu …con/corporatesite/support (external link)

and select inkjet + L800 + your OS. I does not appear that printer-paper profiles are a separate download so hopefully, if there are profiles for this printer, they get installed with the printer drivers, etc.

Hmm, I'm not an Epson user and haven't caught up with modern "stuff", but it sounds like the L800 might be in the same category as the HP All-In-One printer that came up here, in that ICC profiles are not provided seperately but the functions are "built in" to the driver so that the printer handles things but a profile is not provided for software to "soft proof" using a system printer/paper profile.

I could be wrong...!

if you plan on printing a lot and getting in to advanced printing i would highly recommend taking a small course somewhere local- Lynda.com could also be a good place to find tutorials for you

Always do right, this will gratify some people and astonish the rest.
