Hello POTN,

Im about to purchase the Siggy 30 from someone on CL. They claim they bought it off amazon and have never used it. I have been searching around the net for information on this lens, as far as when it was introduced and if more 'recent' produced copies have been enhanced or what not. If anyone has information about this please share! Its a VERY good price for the lens, used or not, but if the more recent manufactured copies are any different I might hold off and pay the current BNH price at 289.

I remember seeing that the newer ones either have a sparkly finish, or the olders ones had the sparkly finish. Not exactly sure...

Thanks in Advance!

I want to add that Im aware that there isnt a 'technical' difference between older produced or recently produced 30mm but I just want to be able to gauge if this is a never lens or not. Just want to be sure about my purchase and make sure this is indeed a 'New' sigma 30 like the seller says...

yes thats why i kept on losing bids on the older speckle version as i knew they would be older and didn't want to pay more than i had to. but won this one as I knew it was post sept 2010. The new 30mm Siggy (different innards) is out soon but I'll I suspect you know that already.

Yes I had the 17-50 macro back in 2008 and it was the mat sparkly version. Which I actually liked at the time. Just liking the new finish more.

Ah found info and images on here :)

Best of luck today and get your haggling hat on.

Here's a link to a thread on this lens that began in 2006, and is still active today. With over 500 pages of posts, I doubt you'll read the whole thing, but I'll wager you can find all the info you need about this lens, and then some. Keep us informed on how it works out.

Good, glad you're aware of it. I just didn't know if you knew it existed. Hope you get a good deal.

I wouldn't pay more than $230 for a used one...you could pay $60 more and get a 4 year warranty...that in itself is worth the difference in price for me
