I'm just an amateur hack, but I love my smallHD DP-6 monitor. For someone with old eyes, it's a life saver, for video and stills.

But their new release (external link) looks awesome (yes, you get what you pay for-- or more accurately, the best always costs more).

A 7.7" OLED screen would really let you dial it in at capture, as far as that's possible. I think they do a great job at explaining the whole business as well. (and better battery life?!)

I couldn't agree more with SmallHD's products being top notch.

I just bought the AC7 and opted against the OLED version because I couldnt justify the $500 price increase over the LCD model for just a little bigger size and the gorilla glass.... but everyone's needs are different.

Exactly. And I can't believe how over-priced BMW's, Tempur-Pedic mattresses, and Canon L-lenses are...

Doesn't stop people from buying them in droves - BMW has been on the rise lately, and Canon can churn out 10 million EF lenses a year. Tempur-Pedic mattress... hmm sounds nice.

Edit: L lenses are actually cheap in the grand scheme of things, compare them to lenses made by German manufacturers (Zeiss (not the garbage ZE/ZF lenses), Leica, Schneider, Rodenstock, and so on), and you're looking at prices that range from $2000 for the most very basic glass up to $7000 and even $10,000, just for a prime in a relatively normal focal range (between 24-135mm). And don't get me started on cine lenses that start at $10k and go on up to $25k a pop for Zeiss Master primes, some of the zooms reach $50k, and all cover a format that's only roughly the size of APS-C.

Thank Asia that one can shoot on their cheap Canon 5DIII and bargain bin 70-200 2.8 IS II they way they do now.

I acquired an expensive camera so I can hang out in forums, annoy wedding photographers during formals and look down on P&S users... all the while telling people it's the photographer, not the camera.

I just picked up the AC7 LED version last week also. A little salty, yes, but relative to what else is available given that it is a true HD monitor, it is actually pretty decent price. For me, I needed the flexibility that it offers. I shoot video on a Canon 7D, Canon XH-A1, Canon HV30, GoPro, and PlaySport. The AC7 is versatile enough to easily bounce between all of those cameras depending what I am shooting. So far I am extremely impressed with this monitor.

I could not agree more.

In fact, I think it is actually a steal for the resolution, brightness and features compared to everything else out there.

Someone needs to do a good comparison between the DP6 and the AC7 LED! I want to know if I want to upgrade or not! lol

Ben, I am an AC7 owner and have used the DP6 many times. Personally, I do not think it is worth the upgrade in your case. They are the same resolution, you would mostly be paying for the bigger screen. Granted, the AC7 does have slightly better contrast ratio (800:1 vs 500:1) and a brighter screen (400nits vs 300 nits) but for the most part those improvements are nominal over what you already have.

Huh, well I can say I have never found the contrast to be disappointing in my DP6 nor have do I think I have ever even needed to turn up the brightness all the way as the sun hood is awesome, which stands to reason I wouldnt need the added brightness. I also kinda like the more compactness of the screen size on the DP6. Huh, guess Ill be holding on to it a bit longer. Thanks.

Can you explain what you mean by "salty" here?

Thanks.

That link isn't at all helpful in understanding your use of the word 'salty' to describe a video monitor.
