That link isn't at all helpful in understanding your use of the word 'salty' to describe a video monitor.

LOL Its slang! Ive never heard of it, but like most slang it isnt at all helpful in understanding ANYTHING! And I certainly didnt use the word, I dont speak like that.

My best guess is that the person who did use it meant to say that the price was higher than they liked or should have been and because of that they were "salty - generally meaning that you just got played, or are looking stupid, either because of something you did, or something that was done to you." or otherwise feels foolish for paying that much. And that link I posted said exactly that.

I'm currently selling my DP4 which is a great little field. I decided to grab the LCD AC7 with SDI because a lot of companies now want 3K & 4K footage instead of the good ol 1920x1080. I was impressed with the DP4 and the AC7 was a mighty good upgrade. The DP6 is now discontinued which the AC7 now replaces. On top of the monitors being great quality, SmallHD's customer service is one you'll rarely find in the business. Highly recommend this company. I don't think their monitors are expensive at all when comparing them to other manufactures.

If anyone is interested, I have it up for auction through EBAY:

Great little monitors but cannot justify their prices

I concur. I could buy a huge 24" LED TV from bestbuy and build a motorized dolley to drive myself around on all hooked to my camera for the price of one of these little monitors.

I used my 24" Dell monitor as a focus monitor while filming a school play last week. It worked, but I hated having to look down and 90 degrees to the left to see it.

Someone needs to do a good comparison between the DP6 and the AC7 LED! I want to know if I want to upgrade or not! lol

Here you go:

You guys are funny. It may be a fortunate or unfortunate part of the industry but showing up to a shoot with a Dell, HP or Target brand monitor as a focusing monitor will probably land you back into your car or never hired again by that client. As a professional, you're tools need to be professional. A $3 can opener from Bath & Bodyworks won't cut it.

Now if you're shooting family videos or something to post on Youtube... Go for it. Save some money and use what you got. :D

L lenses are actually cheap in the grand scheme of things, compare them to lenses made by German manufacturers (Zeiss (not the garbage ZE/ZF lenses), Leica, Schneider, Rodenstock, and so on), and you're looking at prices that range from $2000 for the most very basic glass up to $7000 and even $10,000, just for a prime in a relatively normal focal range (between 24-135mm). And don't get me started on cine lenses that start at $10k and go on up to $25k a pop for Zeiss Master primes, some of the zooms reach $50k, and all cover a format that's only roughly the size of APS-C.

Thank Asia that one can shoot on their cheap Canon 5DIII and bargain bin 70-200 2.8 IS II they way they do now.

But you're talking glass that doesn't even compare. I love all my L lenses. But shoot with a set of Zeiss Super Speeds for a week and tell me with a straight face they aren't worth the money. And, they are actually relatively cheap.

Horses for courses, yes, I was just writing to the people who don't know that Zeiss Super Speeds even exist. No one actually buys those lenses anyway, they are usually rented.

I acquired an expensive camera so I can hang out in forums, annoy wedding photographers during formals and look down on P&S users... all the while telling people it's the photographer, not the camera.

That is what I was looking for and after watching that I will probably be upgrading :) Looks likes its time to sell the DP6 and accessories!

And you do bring up a very good a valid point. With soo many people throwing together cheap kits combined with a lack of experience and working for next to nothing videographers are becoming like photographers where they are a dime a dozen and everyone and their mom thinks they can be one. Having the right high quality tools for the job is the same as it is for any other job, it will improve your results, reliability and make you look more professional which for repeat business matters more than people realize I think.

My friend was smart and bought a set. Now not only does he get the DP rate, he gets the rental rate as well. His clients are buying his glass for him. Perfect if you can front the money and wait. Wish I had some the money for them though... they are damn sexy. :(

Yep. Try lugging around a 24" monitor on the sidewalk while you are shooting skyscrapers for a client. Try dialing in accurate focus with my old eyes without the AC7 OLED. :)

The new exposure and focus assist looks awesome. Easier to distinguish than my DP4.

The software and focus assist tools ARE fantastic.... though having no included waveform monitor boggles my mind. That is the ultimate exposure tool for broadcast professionals and they seem to have invested in very similar software, but not waveform.

I am 110% happy with my AC7 LED otherwise.
