FREE business advice to Canon CEO!...

...OK, will take 1$.
Since a lot of OP are on the fence regarding which camera to get, more MP or faster shutter speeds, here is an idea for Canon to consider right now, with the Canon FF lineup.
1 - Canon 5D Mark III - keep it as it is, has high MP and video for whoever wants video in DSLR body.
2 - Canon 1DX - remove the video but keep the high ISO, fast shutter, 18MP and name it SPORT as "Canon 1DX-SPORT"
3 - Canon 1DX - remove the video and add the sensor from 5D Mark III to make it 22MP and name it STUDIO as "Canon 1DX-STUDIO".
In this way would be a lot easier for many OP to choose a body based on preferences as video, action/sports or studio/landscape, in a 1D body or regular style.
How many agree or not, wonder if anybody would sent this link to Canon to see it...

5DMkIII the way it is.
1DX the way it is, and a new 3D targeted towards landscape and studio work having 46+ mpix, a brand new sensor design optimized for lower ISO with NO BANDING and several additional stops of DR, oh, and video.

Basically, the 5DMkIII, the iDX, and the Nikon D800E which accepts Canon lenses.

Only use present Canon cameras and just swap/remove parts without any new technology or parts from other brands.

There's a rumor about just that being on the way, no one knows how accurate it is though.

It's pretty much a certainty that Canon will roll out a high MP FF camera in the not-too-distant future. No one knows precisely when, or exactly what it will look like... I'm betting it will be 36 to 40 MP in an 1DX-type body. Maybe 1DXs (pronounced one-dee-excess).

Canon doesn't really have a choice. The competition is offering similar cameras already.

It costs so little to add video to a DSLR, we can pretty much expect all future models to offer it, whether we use it or not. In fact, it might be more expensive to offer parallel models with and without video, than a single model that includes it... economies of scale and all that stuff.

If Canon only offers it in a 1X format, I will really be disappointed. They have to hit high MP, high DR, and an under $3000 just to come close to the competition.

I do not agree that this is good business advice for Canon. Remember, Canon is not in the business of giving us what we want/need. Rather, they are in the business of getting the most money from us as they can.

One very effective way of getting the most dollars out of us is to not give us exactly what we need in a camera. That forces us to either buy/own/use multiple cameras at the same time, or it forces us to upgrade whenever they release a new model, or an updated version of a current model.

They are fine the way they are.

Lets look at Canon's accomplishments.... now lets look at yours... I am actually not going to look at yours (no offense to you and anything that you may have accomplished up to now but I think that would be a waste of time), I'm going on the assumption that this scale would tip all the way to Canon on this one

BECAUSE I am the customer! Without my buying power of voting, any company will not stay in business. Simple as that. Some manufacturers change and adapt to customer's needs, some stay rigid and fail. A good business practice is to accommodate the needs of your customers and provide for their needs. If "you" are a wedding photographer, do you accommodate the needs and wants of the customer or give them a list of "this is what I do, take it or leave it"? ( I am not in the business, just asking).
Would be nice from Canon in this case to either do something as I have proposed or have a CUSTOM LINE (like some computer companies) and us be able to order cameras customized based on OUR needs. For the $$$ they demand for a PRO camera, I expect more from them.

I don't think that your buying decision will cripple Canon.

One consumer with ridiculous requests doesn't require a single bit of action on the Manufacturer's part. If there is a huge need, the manufacturer tends to adjust.
