I know they're expensive, and good. I had one done, 30x20" from my old 300D and the print looks great! It's on my wall behind my TV.

A google will probably bring up more info.

They are basically digital photographic prints, much like prints from digital files. They are large format, so great for display stands. The paper has three layers of red, green and blue emulsion that is activated by laser, I think.

I know of somewhere in London that does them, but you should be able to find somewhere nearer to you that can do them. I would search for large format, or exhibition stands and you should be able to turn something up.

Good luck.

From their "Technology" link:

Exposure Technology
Three coloured lasers (red, green, and blue) – which are controlled by sensors and by Durst’s proprietary image creation software together with an optical system for the combining of the light beam independent of temperature – expose the digitized images one line at a time, pixel by pixel at the selected resolution of either 200 ppi or 400 ppi, on photosensitive roll materials (RA4 photographic papers and transparent or translucent photographic films).

They're a high-end continuous tone printer, similar to the LightJet or Chromira or Durst Epsilon. 16.7 million possible colors, apparent resolution of 4000 DPI.

I've gotten prints done from a 300 DPI Chromira and 254 DPI Epsilon and they are incredible.

COOL!

Can you wax lyrical a little about them? (i.e. what was different)

Wonder how much they cost and if you can get them here in the UK

Well, I guess they just seem to have "depth" to the printing. Kinda weird, and hard to describe. The colors certainly are vivid, and the fact that they're continuous tone makes it seem like there's a *lot* more resolution than actually exists. I have a hard time thinking about going back to inkjet prints now.

Mine cost me about US$100, but prints are wicked expensive here. I get them from Elco in the USA now.

Yeah. Normally an 8x10 is $15. Ouch.

But Elco Color will do 20x30 for $10, compared to $40+ from most others. But all Elco will do is 20x30 or bigger, so if you want smaller prints you just have to gang multiple pictures and trim them yourself.

They are approximately £58plus VAT each for an A1. If you have a few, obviously the price comes down. They are nice people to deal with (I worked alongside them for a couple of years). I am sure there are others, but they always give me a good deal. Speak to Lawrence or Brendan and tell them I recommended them (Graham Middleton, you might get a 'special price').

Good luck.
