I am about to purchase a rebel xt and was wondering how big(mb) a fine resolution jpg picture is, well the range, and also how big raw pics can be. Does anyone know this info?
I will only be able to afford a 512mb card at the moment so im hoping i can get at least 150 shots in .jpg mode...

You can download the instruction manual for the camera from Canon's download library. In the manual there is a chart showing shots/CF card at various quality settings.

Depending on your output, you may not need all 8 megapixels. If you're making screen-sized images for the web or 4x6 prints, you could easily go down to medium jpeg and save a load of card space.

You could at a push, but it's not a great idea on the whole.

In .jpg fine you will average about 120 shots depending on other factors. I find a 512 is great for casual shooting around the house but when I plan on going out to do some shooting i want more, especially shooting raw. i have 1 1GB and 2 512MB and fill them up regularly.
