I'm leaving tomorrow to Berlin and Istanbul and will only be carrying the G1X. This is actually what I bought it for, to be able to leave the big and heavy dslr at home and keep taking high IQ photos. I promise to post here at the end of the next week after I return.

Next month I'll be taking a G1X to Hawaii. I will have a DSLR, but that will mostly stay in the hotel room unless I really need it. I'm taking it more as a back up to the G1X.

My G7 is still the only camera I've taken on trips since I got it and I've never felt the need to change that.

I've taken many short trips so far with my G15. Just went out to Chicago last weekend (about a 7 hour drive away) to visit some family, and see the city. I brought both my G15 and my DSLR/lenses, but ended up only using and carrying the G15. It fits in a jacket pocket, and takes pictures on par (better, actually) with my old 10D anyway. I generally only use the DSLR when I want to take some wildlife pics at long focal lengths. For everything else, the G15 is pretty fantastic. Also, the great lens and low light capabilities of the G15 actually make it more useful in a lot of circumstances that a DSLR with only a 'decent' lens.

1Ds Mk II, 10D, G15. 400 2.8 IS L, 100-400 L, 70-200 2.8 IS L, 75-300 EFII, 180 3.5 Macro L, 28-80 EFII, 17-35 2.8 L, 15 Fisheye. Uncle Pete, you were a photographer in your own league, thank you.

We just returned from a 5 week trip, and 80% of my shots were with my G9, while 15% were with my G11. My NX100 took the remaining 5%. I purposely tried to use the G9 the most, while deciding whether to sell it and upgrade to the G15. As a result, I'm keeping the G9 for a while longer. For low light, indoor shots, I used the onboard flash. I was looking for keepers of my grandkids, and the G9, as well as the G11 work well with the onboard flash. I also used my 430EX II with all three cameras.

In recent years my DSLR hasn't traveled anywhere as I try to keep within the Airline's Hand-luggage limit. It's not so bad when I use a US airline with a 10/11 kg limit but last year I traveled with one airline that had a 5 kg restriction and there's no way I'm letting photo gear go into the hold.
Having spent much of my working life at airports I know what a rough life your suitcase can have:(

Today I'm always keen to grab any camera of small size and large sensor - currently the G1X , Fuji X100 and Leica X1.

Personally I've never been satisfied with small sensor cameras ( even m4/3) although Fuji's X10 is exceptional and the old Leica Dlux4 ( Lumix LX3) could surprise and still beats it's successors at base ISO.
I have a Canon G9 and found it good at the time but now relegated to a drawer.

If I were forced to take one camera it would be the G1X with a close up attachment and I know I'd be happy.

Nope, never taken a trip only with a G camera. Probably won't either.

Bought a G10 for this reason a few years ago. Tried it twice, but did not like being without my DSLR. Travel kit now always includes DSLR (FF) 17-40, 24-105, 100-400 and tripod etc. Much happier with comprehensive gear available.

When we fly,,we take only our light weight G9 kits,,but when we drive we take way too many cameras & lens,,just don,t want the airport hassle with a backpack full of a laptop and camera gear,,,some airlines even make you dump the batteries,,
We still get fine pics and don,t miss the Dslrs that much,,& at 70+ years its much easyer on us..I can forsee the day there will only be a "G" cam with us..Cheers Ron

Planning a trip this summer to Airventure and the USAF Museum. Awaiting the G15 now and am building a small kit to take. I have traveled with my SLR and bag but really don't want to try to lug it with me on this one.

I had a D1X loaner that, at the last minute, I left at home, taking only the Nikon P7000 (G12 comparable) to New Yawk. (I also took a Nikon SB-600 speedlite)

It was a good decision, worked out very well.

I'm considering selling the Nikon stuff and getting a G but unsure if G15 or G1X.
