When I go on vacations I usually go specifically for shooting so I take the DSLR's and a small camera but if I was going just to relax or and island I would only take my G1x.

As a travel P&S camera it is hard to beat. However, in the same size range ... there is also the Olympus OM-D M5 ... Bill

I haven`t used any other lens on the T3i besides the nifty fifty, which has great IQ in my opinion, so I can`t compare the G1X with the kit lens, but some say it`s equal or even better. I also find that the focus is fast enough, of course when you compare it to the dslr is slow but I don`t remember missing any shots. ISO dial instead of EV compensation would have been better for M mode, but AV mode plus EV dial is ok. Preset scenes are nice, especially the vintage look and toy camera, which I used and I like the results. 600d + 50mm 1.8 II, Sigma 18-250/ Nissin Di600/ G1X/ Ixus 220/ Raynox 150

The advantage was being able to carry the camera on me, rather than rummaging around the panniers whenever I wanted to take a photograph (for various reasons, I can not fit front panniers to my bicycle). Magic Roundabout (Cannes)IMAGE LINK: http://www.flickr.com …/in/set-72157629348930378 Speak (Greece)IMAGE LINK: http://www.flickr.com …/in/set-72157629570684474 The Road (Albania)IMAGE LINK: http://www.flickr.com …/in/set-72157629909388651 By far the worst limitation with the G12 was the general speed, particularly for AF. The image quality is generally fine - even in low light if you are careful. I also found it more difficult to compose images than with a DSLR since mostly you can not use DOF for subject isolation - though maybe that is a good discipline The folding LCD and macro are fantastic. The camera was always reliable, despite getting soaked and dropped several times. Or are we all commercial photographers who supply print media? Have fun
