Minus their low tolerance with low light that will show as excess noise, they are nothing shy of DSLR.

G1X doesn't really have that problem, noise handling at higher ISO are similar to the 7D, which I know isn't the best at noise handling but it's a step forward for a compact.

I'd say more like a 'lite' version of a DSLR, IQ is comparable but not as flexible as a DSLR

Agreed about the G1X , I call mine a mini dslr, especially with the small 270ex ii, it looks great and takes great pictures.
