We were at The Viera Wetlands Saturday morning when we came across a River Otter that was very Cooperative and wanted to pose for photos.
This River Otter was in the weeds eating a fish that it had just caught and the Gator took it away.
The Otter barked and fussed at the Gator to no avail. The Gator is swallowing the meal in this photo.

Large crop with the 1DMKIV and the 500 f4.

The Otter then swam ashore near where I was standing.

Then up the bank a few feet to a wallow where a dirt bath was next on the menu.

Then all was left to do was to lay back and relax.

This went on for at least 15 minutes then the otter went back for another fish to replace the one it lost to the Gator.

Thanks for looking

Great shots. I am jealous as I have seen them a few times at Viera but they were always moving fast and I was unable to get that close to them.

Thanks, I have been there dozens of times and this is the closest I have gotten to them.

Wow!!! Love the closeups!!!

The Last Three are all full frame with a slight crop for composition.

That image is a large crop and that is a dead reed in front of the Gator.
There was no chance to change my position. I was just glad to capture the action.

The Otter fussed and fussed but it didn't matter to the Gator.

The Viera Wetlands is a unique place, it would be worth the trip.

We only saw the Caracara at a distance that day.
