I saw this question earlier in this thread, "How you attract backyard birds?" Seems like a great question to me so I'm reposting the question. Here is one of my all-time favorites... The water feature, this bad boy brings all kinds of birds in close. On the north side of the backyard I put more of nuts and larger seed and on the south side small seed like thistle, millet, etc. May put out some fruit like raisins and currants after they been soaked in water. I've not tried it yet, so I wonder if anyone could share their experience with fruits to attract birds like, waxwings, bluebirds, orioles and tanagers, or others, that could help? Also flowers include Salvia guaranitica 'Black and Blue', and Confederate Jasmine seem to make the hummers happy.

A magpie-lark visited my backyard yesterday. Normally they just forage for insects, but this one found something of interest in the parrots' feeder.

@Callumbrae nice capture! that magpie-lark has a striking pattern of black and white. You have some truly awesome birds in Australia.

@Peter love the clear, sharp images of Towhee, they can be hard to get a good shot of IMHO.

I hear the Towhee's more than I see them as they are usually foraging for insects. They have a very distinctive song. Those red eyes are something. The one leg chickadee looks like you may have caught him off guard. Was he sleeping? Great colors and detail on the feathers btw.

Only got a few minutes today to go outside after work today before it got too dark in the backyard.

This one was trying to figure out what I'm doing with the camera and I think they have made a nest close to the side of my house. I've been avoiding going over there as I don't want to disturb them. Trying to decide if I should take out the flowers in the background of this image. They kinda look like clouds, but maybe they take away to much from the portrait of the sparrow... What do you think?

Here is an example of what was in my backyard: a ghost! :)

Seriously, I think this poor fellow was (?) a mourning dove (no pun intended), that hit my living room window (I wasn't home at the time).

I did not find any dead birds under my window but a couple days later discovered a few dove feathers nearby. Perhaps a coopers hawk that visits occasionally caught the poor fella (RIP)

That ghost image is truly amazing. All I get if a bird hits my window is a dirty smudge.:(

Pondrader I think your backyard would eat mine for breakfast! WOW that is one BIG owl!

I noticed this weekend that I think they have a set feeding schedule. The northern cardinals, a bluejay, and crow(s) show up around 8-9am and the Chickdee, Tufted Tit Mouse(s) and Nuthatch(s) come by around 3pm.
