I want to start off by saying I am new here. I did search the forum for this issue and didn't find anything. That said, I apologize if this topic already exists.

Ok, I have the T3i. I have been playing with off camera flash and noticed if I adjust lighting to look perfect when previewing pictures on my LCD, when I get the images into Lightroom and Photoshop they are drastically underexposed and the image is nowhere what I would consider a good lighting setup. In most cases lighting and shadows look great when previewing on camera but they ultimately end up with bright highlights and dark shadows. The difference between camera preview and Lightroom/Photoshop is almost night and day.

I have noticed when taking pictures outdoors or using ambient light I get similar issues, but they are even worse with off camera flash.

Has anyone experienced this issue with the T3i or other similar bodies? Any tips you can share with me? My LCD brightness is set dead center in the middle.

First I will state I am just getting started into photography so please take the advice of some other more experienced people on this site. That said I have the same camera as you but do not rely on the LCD for a preview of my pictures. If you are have problems with exposure I would play around with the settings and use the exposure meter on to know how the lighting will be be then take the picture. I don't think the LCD preview will give you an accurate look as to how the picture will turn out.

You can change the brightness of the LCD screen from the Menu. Go to the second wrench group and set LCD brightness there. That may or may not solve your problem. I never use the LCD monitor to make my exposure settings. Use Auto Exposure if you need to, or lean about the exposure triangle.

I did try adjusting the brightness. It's almost too dark at that point. I will keep playing around with it. I was shooting in manual with ETTL for flash. Normally if I shoot in aperture priority mode and ETTL the picture looks blown out. Given my issue, I might just try those settings to see how the image ultimately looks in Lightroom. If it looks blown out on my LCD, it might just end up looking ok.
