I have made a journey away from photography and now I am back and I enter it as a newby. My thoughts on taking photos has changed because the digital world and technology has made me change. I am looking at pics taken by the 7D and a few of the other more expensive cams but I am also looking at the t3i and the t3 shots and they appear to me to be just as good. I know there is a reason those cams cost so much more than the t3's but after seeing many great shots with both I was wondering if someone could possibly give me a quick outlook/opinion of their thoughts and experiences.

I plan to use m cam to its fullest potential but after all I am a rookie and still don't even know what that is yet. So I hope my question does not appear to be silly. Thanks for your response in advance and I am looking forward to the objective opinions and thoughts as I have seen many great photographers here.

There are more than a few people here who have tried various camera bodies. In the Canon world I've tried a 5D, 5D2, 5D3 and a 7D. Of these, I liked the images from the 5D best, that camera does something - and I don't pretend to know what it is - that none of the others could do. There were things I didn't like about it, but I could never complain about the images. I still have the 7D, I kept it around for when I take photos of my Borzoi dogs who like to run fast and need a camera that can shoot fast. Of the Canon's I've had the 7D is the one I kept.

I don't think any of the modern Canon bodies would disappoint you. They're all very good.

Welcome back!

The T3i images appear to be just as good as the 7D shots because, in most cases, they are just as good.

The T3I is a very capable camera, but the more expensive models offer features it doesn't have - and which you may not need.

For example, the 7D will shoot at a higher burst rate (more shots per second in machine-gun mode), it's autofocus is better for action shots such as basketball (I think), that kind of thing.

The 5D that Rick mentions has a larger sensor and can get a better image in very low light (using a higher ISO setting) - the 5D3, in particular, is an amazing camera.

The ergonomics of the more expensive models are improved, with controls that are somewhat easier to use.

It's very possible that none of this matters to you, at least not enough to justify the higher price. The T3i is a very nice camera.

Well to be honest I want to be able to take great shots if not good because I am not a big photo editor with the pc yet. I have seen some images that have been changed and they look really good but I think and this is just my opinion and I know others will have their own but the original picture prior to modification is what counts the most. Though I have seen bad shots adjusted and made to look really good so the art of pic-morphing aka photo shopping is an art in itself as I see it.
