Ok, I just couldn't resist. I snagged a Drainpipe for a good price, I think, sub $450, and thought I'd compare it to my 70-200 f/4.0 USM lens. I've seen a couple of other posters here asking about the MDP, whether it's "worth it", or how does it stack up to a "modern" lens. Admittedly, the 'pipe is a bit out of date, and doesn't have all the whizz-bang stuff like IS and USM focusing. But my unit, a bit banged up even though it seems to be, produces pretty dam' good colors right off the bat, and at least compared to my 70-200, seems to have warmer, richer reds. Rather than load up POTN with all sorts of junky pictures that might bore 98% of you, I just did a quick comparo page on my site. If anyone's interested. Between cropping and resizing, I lost a bit of quality, but the color renditions are pretty true to the original.

Overall, after only 24hours of ownership, it seems like a pretty good deal to me. Either that, or my 70-200 is really crappy! :o:o:o:o

its not called magic for nothing....

Some people have to have the newest things....others appreciate that older stuff was at times made better.

I bought mine for 600 in about 2005, used it for 7 plus years and sold it on ebay for 1050. I should have kept it.
