I think the first one is really nice. For a wildlife photo where the animal's markings provide some of the interest, taking out the color doesn't do anything for me, and the first shot is better focused.

Well dont know about the Texas thang:) but these varmints pics were taken in Valley Of Fire near Las Vegas, and their guide called them that. I called them chipmunks too:D

Yeah, I looked it up, and it seems a common enough name. I've just never heard it, and I've been around... including a few assignments in the great state of Texas.

I wonder what they call themselves.

Oh, and I prefer the color image.

While I call them chipmunks too:D, per google and Valley Of Fire state park, These antelope squirrels or antelope ground squirrels are the genus Ammospermophilus of sciurids found in the southwestern United States and northern Mexico...:lol:
