That achromatic back is at the top of my "if I won the lottery" list.

Thanks! With the announcement of these new backs, it should bring down the prices of the first IQ series. :D

Note: For people not fimilar with the Phase dynamic range numbering scheme, 13 stops of DR will probably translate to at least 14 stops in practice, this is because Phase lists usable DR and not absolute DR. The IQ180 is listed as 12.5 stops, but DxO says 13.6, which means that 13 stops from Phase will be fairly conservative.

It's pretty obvious that this is an answer to the D800's 14 stops of DR, the only problem is that the D800E is 3,100 at B&H right now, while the new backs are... wait for it...

Prices start at 29990 EUR / 39990 USD

Man, it's like comparing supercars, whichever you decide is better - you won't get to drive it anyway.

May heart says "get MFDB", but my business says "get 1Dx", alas as much as I'd like a mural-printing behemoth, I need speed if I want to get paid.

I acquired an expensive camera so I can hang out in forums, annoy wedding photographers during formals and look down on P&S users... all the while telling people it's the photographer, not the camera.

The two big questions:

1. Does it have a proper live view system? (i.e. one that doesn't require you to stop down and/or put ND filters in front of the lens to function)
2. Does it have the full 56mm width of a proper 645-format frame?

If the answer is yes to both, it might be interesting sliding one into the Hartblei H-Cam and putting a TS-E 17L in front of it.

So, when are they going to release a real full-frame 645-format back?

Given that, at the moment, I'm shifting and stitching with a TS-E 17L and TS-E 24L (for an effective 60mm-wide frame), yes...
