I went to the British Library scanning department a few months ago to check out the software and equipment they use to scan their books with my boss at the Zoological Society, and was of course completely blown away. The guy showing us around asked what I was using to photograph our artworks, where upon I proudly whipped out one of my 1DX's.

He shrugged, "Oh we've got five 80mb Phase One's." And they did.The room I was in did indeed have five photo booths with guys shooting stuff with completely mental set ups. Utterly mental. I'm not entirely sure I could ever justify owning one at the moment, but heck, it wouldn't half be fun :)

No you silly dillies !
B&W still has RGB tones. If u doubt this use PS RGB sliders on monochrome image.
But one day soon Bayer Logic will be replaced then you have gateway to very high MP.

Many of you don't really understand the whole ball of wax in producing Copyright high dollar ad images.
Its a quite different concept than just shooting or selling images.

The WiFi thing is really for on location shooting w/o computer wire hookup
and is of value if you work with Art Director on line giving his "direction" real time.
If you have never done this ... believe me you don't want the dude directing your shoot and changing stuff.
Imagine some AD griping, swiping, and driving you to drink with their "inputs".
The touch screen is prob the weakest link ... normal use for touch screens is 3 yrs life.
Ever have a smart phone go nuts because the touch screen connections go south ???

Aside from being reductive in your reply,

you need to unbunch your panties when art director gets on your case. The client hires an art director to manage the CLIENTS vision, not yours.

So when the art director changes stuff, and you dont like it... well thats your problem. Your attitude will get you excused from a shoot in front of the client. paying clients never remember the good ones, but man do they remember the bad ones!

At the very least, you could download PhotoAcute Studio and quadruple the resolution of your images without having to stitch, I regularly turn out 84.5mp images with my 5DII. Obviously not as nice as a native 80mp back with 120mm macro lens, but hey, we work with what we can get. I shoot art reproductions professionally, and people are only ecstatic about the images they get from me, actually some complain about the files being too big!

I acquired an expensive camera so I can hang out in forums, annoy wedding photographers during formals and look down on P&S users... all the while telling people it's the photographer, not the camera.

Cool advice, but what is the need to be honest. I'm only photographing the artworks for publishers at the end of the day, and perhaps digitalising stuff for prosperity. If they want up front files, I can land them with hard core .tif files I can get upto about 250mb, last time I gave it a go in Photoshop.

On a serious note, that is actually quite helpful. We've just established a relationship with an online gallery for our historical prints, which even scanned at 1200 dpi, aren't very large

I actually make the files for life-size reproductions of the artworks, many of which I do myself on a 44", when you need 14,000 pixels just to cover the width of the printer @ 360ppi, you really need all the pixels you can get. Just recently I shot a 1x1m artwork from the 70's that took 8 shots, 4 shots per side, two sides stitched together. Using PAS in the process makes it easier to deal with concerning lighting and shading correction.

Don't really need the 80mp to be honest...40 would be perfect, depending on the price drop I might be willing to splurge for the 60....it's a shame the IQ2 isn't available in 40mp

For those who wish to download some of the long exposure samples from the IQ260, you can download them from the Digital Transitions website. :) Happy pixel peeping. I sure was impressed.

I realize it shows my ignorance, but I don't understand the long exposure thing from that site. Shows 1 min and 8 min exposures both at iso 140 and at f/11.
