40mp is the CROP sensor

I know, but full-frame 645 is horribly expensive, 44x33 or 45x30 is the most I can foreseeably budget for.

the H series are ugly, but if thats your criterion, im not even going to get started on the leaf shutter thing... you cant sync at all shutter speeds with your 5D. I can with my mamiya :) (or an H)

That was a joke, but yes, leaf shutters are a big reason to use MF at all.

ignore the lunar thing.

 Nope.

Phocus is crap. Capture one is amazing.

I installed it once to process some H files I got, and removed it the same day; never again.

Both of those cameras look like crop sensor cameras to me :)

Crop MF is still a lot better than 35mm.

Ohh, and you can control your phase back from your iphone... I control my entire RZ67ii setup from mine.

I still have Capture Pilot on my iPad, from the one time when I needed it, but it's probably of most use to studio shooters.

Just to be clear, I'm not going to use strobes outside of product shots, so handhold-ability is an important part of the system I choose - Phase and Leica are currently in a tie for my wallet.

5DmkII | 24-70 f/2.8L II | Pentax 645Z | 55/2.8 SDM | 120/4 Macro | 150/2.8 IF
I acquired an expensive camera so I can hang out in forums, annoy wedding photographers during formals and look down on P&S users... all the while telling people it's the photographer, not the camera.

AHHH I got trolled and didnt even realize it!

why not the pentax 645D? does it not meet the prettiness criterion :P

I think that the leica system is very pretty, but man its lenses are insanely priced...

Whew! Glad to see a sense humor

I'm thinking about the Pentax too, but besides the overpriced 25/90mm's, you're mostly looking at legacy glass. The lenses aren't bad by any means, but my primary reason for wanting MF is to get a sharp image wide open, something that lenses like the HC100/2.2, 150/2.8D IF, and 120/2.5 are all renowned for.
Maybe if I were going to shoot landscapes or city on tripod at f/8 ~ f/11, then the 645D would be a stronger consideration, also both the S2 and 645D came out about the same time, but while the S has had an update, the 645DII isn't even announced yet.

The 40mp crop backs aren't bad by any means, its all about how you use em. Over on GetDPI in the "Fun with MF" thread, there is this one guy Pramote, under the username "LandscapeLover", who consistently posts images of landscapes that I consistently find to be rather... Improvement-needy to be polite. He shoots with an IQ180 and tech cam.
Nathan Lediard and Stan Rox both shoot with an H4D40 and I'm always a fan of their images, so that's a big YMMV for you.

I think that the leica system is very pretty, but man its lenses are insanely priced...

Well, not overly so, good MF lenses are $3~5k each, while the S glass is $5~7k. For all practical purposes, I would only need two lenses, so it wouldn't be a huge loss.
An IQ140 DF+ and 150mm would probably amount to $25k vs $29k for an S with 120mm.
