I am no fashion photographer (hmmm, when i come to think of it, i'm no photographer at all... =P ), but when this last week my fashion designer friend Juliet Donkare asked me to take some photos of her designs i couldn't resist the opportunity.

We found some nice walls on our German Course School, she got a couple of friends as models, i got my Youngnuo speedlight and there we went!
We had lots of fun and i think we got a couple of nice photos. =)

Would love to know what you think of the photos...

All photos taken with my Canon 60D, my Tamron 28-75mm and my Youngnuo speedlight with a very cheap umbrella! (wish i could afford better gear, but...)

=)

I use the messy hair technique a lot and think that is your best.
But I would soften that background ... maybe w more separation or PS.

I think the post processing you did on 1,3, and 4 is a bit strange. They look too washed out and the blueish/purplish color cast is a bit odd.

i know the hair thing is very cliché, but still i had to try it! =)
thanks. yes, maybe that background has too much texture.
What does PS mean?

yes, i like this kind of mutes colors, with some "tinting".
I know not everyone likes it, and i'm not the best doing it (ai, ai, ai...), but that was on purpose.
You rather the well saturated ones?

I like pic one, as it shows motion and has a nice feel to it. The others are pretty bland. No real effort on the part of the models to pose or do anything other than stand there.

1&2 are good. 3&4 seem a bit dark to me. Flesh tones are off.

Your images are bit small in my display to see well.

thanks...
yes, i also see now that the photos could have some more movement, some more life.
Well, the girls are not models, they are my friends, and i also don't have experience with this, so i guess we were happy how it came out, and very inspired to do better next time!
;)

i thought maybe i could bring some fashion magazines and go through them with the girls, to get some ideas of what kind of poses good models use.
What do you think of this?

I also see that the post processing i did doesn't really please most people.
Hmmm, i was trying to get something a bit different from those saturated photos that i think i have seen to much time. Maybe it wasn't so successful experience, but i actually enjoy them!
Next time better! ;)

I love the movement in #1. #3 and #4 I think would be better if their pose wasn't straight on... more like #2 would be better.

its easier when you have models who know how to pose. try working with some.

any advice on how to get models with some experience to take some photos with an unexperienced photographer?
I have just made a ModelMayhem account, and i'll try to contact some from there, but any other ideas and advices are very welcome!
=)
