Don't post often but here are a few of my best from last weekend's motorsport action. Plenty more on my flickr...thanks for looking.

Hate to say it, but your images have the same problem as everyone else who has posted track shots from Clipsal... WAY to high of a shutter speed.... Not one of the images has any life, they look like cars parked on track.

I know street circuits are difficult, I've shot Clipsal and the Gold Coast and even with credentials they are not easy, but you still have to get motion into the images, even shooting at 1/500th will give some movement, these look like they have been shoot at 1/2000th and higher. Remember that the car is coming at you, it isn't moving that quickly across the frame, you really can go a lot slower and still get sharp images.

I'm not trying to be rude, just provide you with a valid critique.

I shoot cars, too and some of them deserve to be hi speed. Nice shots.

If you are going to use high shutter speeds, and for me, anything over 1/800th is high for a car shot, there has to be absolutely no wheel visible and there has to be something happening that give the image life. The only time I can see justification for use high shutter speeds is with drag racing.

I mostly shoot bike racing and I see so many amateurs and "pros" who simply don't get that motor racing is about action and movement, having bikes that look like they are going to fall over or cars that look like they are parked on the track is just ugly.

All I am trying to do is give my opinion as a professional motorsport photographer, my aim is to help people improve. As I said, I don't wish to be rude, but there is no point in saying that something is great when clearly it isn't, but if the points I make are taken and acted on the results will improve.

If he shot at lower ss by stopping down would he not get a face full of fence, can see the fence in some shots at f 4,f8-10 would be a nightmere.
could use a ND filter which I have done in the past?
Im no pro thats for sure

Shots look good under the conditions I think

Thanks KK and I don't completely disagree with you agosling but I found that if I went up to even F5.6 I really struggled to get rid of the fence. The only way was to go F4 and lean as far forward as possible. I also found that in bright sunlight the fences showed up more so I tried to shoot through bits that were in shade. I tried a bit of panning but that just made the fence worse. Until I can get a photo pass to get to the other side of the fence it is what I get. I had better success with the fence thing last year but I think it was more overcast. Anyway, I like em.

I was the same RS. Trying to time shots with shadowed areas behind the cars.
For me anything more than 5.6 would show fence. Usually for motion shots I'd shoot Tv but this time to get rid of the fence I used on Av hence varying shutter speeds.
