Hey guys, so I shot at the 2nd Annual Freaks & Beard event. I didn't shoot much of the beards because I had limited memory space on me (did get a few bearded ladies though). So I shot burlesque dancers, clowns, and mermaids. Still going through the photos, but here are some favs so far. I also don't have a logo or anything yet, so it's just my name on the web-images.

These were shot with my 50mm 1.8, at night with one or two lights pointed at the performers on the outdoor stage, no other lighting was used. First time doing that, what do you guys think I could improve on? Comments & critique encouraged.

1. Without further ado, here are some clowns (Tyler and Carl) from the 20 Penny Circus. This is my absolute favorite I think.

2. I actually have a lot of decent photos of them, but I have limited space in the thread.

3. Here is the lovely Franki Markstone, who did burlesque routines atop a bed of nails.

4. Here is Vita DeVoid. She also did a burlesque routine, this time incorporating fire. There was lots of movement in her performance, lots of photo ops. In this one, the framing is a little off and her face is hot (spotlight), but I liked it anyway.

5. I loved the fabric movement in this one.

6. Okay, so the cropping is slightly awkward but I thought it still might work...

7. I have a fullbody shot of this as well. Wasn't sure which I liked better, can post if asked.

8. Lastly, a teaser of a mermaid named Mermaid Raven in a 1000 gallon tank. I am hopefully shooting her & her friends again this weekend, so I may have better mermaid photos soon.

Thank you!

I love number 1. Looks like it should be the cover for whatever type of DVD they would release. I might dodge and burn a little, but its a great capture.

2 I would crop th top a little tighter. 3 just looks like she is looking at her feet. Not sure why you didn't frame it with the nails since you mentioned the nails.

4 and 5 I like. 4 just be careful of the crop on her foot. I wish these had a bit of backlighting but thats beyond your control.

I like number 7 as well but would like to see the full body shot.

Hi Cheiri, nice shots it's a good little lens the 50 f1.8 just don't drop it. I am not sure what I would improve about these I think you have done well considering everything Burlesque is far more inviting than a beards. regards tao

Number 7 is a winner for me, but yeah, I'd like to see the full body shot too?

Wow! This is nuts, I got an email saying that my thread got a new reply and I didn't even know what thread it was. This is literally 5 years old! How did you find this, BJWOK? Hahah

My photography has grown SO MUCH since this post! It's so fun to see some old photos. I'd love to do an event like this again to see how much I've grown in the same environment. This was a wonderful blast from the past. Thank you :)
