I just bought a 400mm f5.6L from a member on here, and got it yesterday. I took it out to the bird feeder for a few minutes (Probably only around 20 minutes). I used a cheap monopod (not all that sturdy) and a 430EX II, with a 7D and the 400L.
Here are the uncropped vs. the cropped:
Hope you enjoy them! -Darin

I wonder if the video editors on The Titanic ever went, "Sorry, I can't right now. I'm busy synching the Titanic..."

Great shots, Well done!. Can I ask what settings you used with the flash and how far were you away?

Nice shots!
I was also eyeing that 400L ;)
It was a great deal but I'm already covered in the tele department.

My first birding lens was the 400/5.6. It's a very capable lens and a lot of fun to use.

Thanks for the comments, everyone! Yes, they know how to hide quite well. At one point, the woodpecker was hopping from one side of the post to the other, and I was weaving back and forth trying to get him; quick little creature!
